Andrew Speirs

Andrew Speirs is a senior executive with over 20 years of experience in private and public sector leadership. Through a 15-year career with the National Life Group, Andrew progressed through a series of increasingly responsible positions that culminated in his current CISO role. As NLG’s primary information security leader, he is the evangelist of IS within the organization, advocating for its importance and tying initiatives to the broader business objectives. Previously, as an Information Security Officer, Andrew was handpicked by the current CEO to champion the development of a mission-critical Enterprise Security practice to expand the overall IS function. In his earlier positions with NLG as a Sourcing Officer and Project Manager, Andrew drove initiatives in such areas as strategic IT and security plans, bottom-line performance, employee development, and infrastructure modernization. During his 5+-year tenure with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont that preceded NLG, Andrew focused on building key aspects of the IT infrastructure and creating a more streamlined, efficient operation. Andrew is a decorated military veteran with a career in both the U.S. Navy and Vermont Army National Guard. He served in both Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm as a Naval Flight Officer and Mission Commander; subsequently, he functioned the Training Officer for 700+ member Naval Construction Battalion and as an Operations Officer for the 172nd Information Operations (IO) Group and Battalion. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Management from Norwich University; additionally, he completed the Dartmouth Tuck Executive Education program for Information Security Professionals.
